multi engine training humbersideMulti-Engine Rating - The Multi Engine Rating will entitle the PPL holder to fly in command of Single Pilot Multi Engine Piston aircraft. The course is undertaken with the POM Flying Club in conjunction with Triple A Flying using the Beech Duchess aircraft. The course comprises 6 Hours Flying Training and 7 Hours Ground Training in order to give the candidate a sound theoretical knowledge of multi engine piston aircraft operation in accordance with the visual flight rules (VFR), and to teach the skills necessary for the safe and competent operation of such aircraft. A flight test with a CAA authorised examiner is taken at the end of the course.
As an addition, the application of the IMC rating can also be added to the course, or for persons who already have a Multi Engine Rating, the IMC element can be conducted as a "Stand Alone" course.

First Solo Flight - Colin Lond

 

Congratulations to Colin Lond after completing his first Solo Flight at Humberside airport on 22nd November 2009. Colin was the pilot of Piper Warrior G-BPOM and successfully completed one take off, circuit and landing at the airport. He is continuing to train for the PPL Private Pilots Licence with the POM Flying Group.

Rian Crombie is the latest student from The Pom Flying Club to qualify as a
PPL. Rian started his training with the University Air Squadron, flying in
Grob Tutors, before he moved back to the Cleethorpes area and then decided to complete his PPL with us. Rian can be seen here with Dave Gibson - CFI & Examiner with G-BPOM in the Walgate Hangar.

Another PPL Pass with The POM Flying Group !

Congratulations to Rob Shadlock (left) who passed his PPL skills test today 18 September 2009. He now holds a Private Pilots Licence after completing his training with The POM Flying Group at Humberside Airport. Rob can now enjoy flying throughout Europe in single engine light aircraft with a Maximum Take Off Weight of 2300kg (5070lbs). Well Done Rob!

Long Cross Country Qualifier

Rob Shadlock on his return to Humberside Airport following his Solo Qualifying Cross Country flight on 11/9/2009. The flight required a trip of 150nm (270km) with two full stop landings at two different aerodromes. Under the guidance of Flying Instructor Edward Hawkins, Rob is progressing with flying colours through the flight training syllabus and is now close to completing his PPL (Private Pilots Licence) with The POM Flying Group.

Cross Country Qualifier

Congratulations to Rian Crombie who completed his Qualifying Cross Country flight on Tuesday 18th August. Part of the qualification included two landings away at Peterborough and Retford airports. Rian is currently training with The POM Flying Group for the Private Pilots Licence.

First Solo Flight!

" Congratulations to Darran Mills who completed his first Solo flight at Humberside Airport on Wednesday 12th August in G-BPOM.  Flying Instructor Andy Rose said: "Darran is a very quick learner and has progressed extremely well on the PPL syllabus.

 

Three Generations of Flyers!

POM Flying Group Pilot Will Holroyd (right) with his father David and his grand father - so three generations!  Will took them up for a flight in POM.

His Grand Father was also a pilot and used to fly Tiger Moths to Hurricanes. Will (19) started learning to fly at age 14 and was awarded with his Private Pilots Licence on Sunday 30 March 2008 after completing his training with The Pom Flying Group. His licence now allows him to fly single engine light aircraft with a Maximum Take Off Weight of 2300kg (5070lbs) throughout Europe. Congratulations to Will and Happy Flying!

 Say hello to Bruce Lincoln the latest POM Flying Group Member and aircraft equity shareholder. Bruce was a Submariner in the Royal Navy for 28 years. It was during this time that he took up gliding at the Portsmouth Naval gliding club, eventually obtaining a gold badge, with diamond height (20,000' ) he also became an air experience instructor. Bruce went on to complete the Private Pilots Licence in 1998, and flew a PA28 out of Lee on Solent. Following his recent move to the Grimsby area he decided to find a share in another PA28 to get back into flying.  After revalidating his licence under the guidance of POM Flying Group Instructor, Edward Hawkins, he now enjoys regular flights from Humberside airport and intends to add to his flying experience by eventually completing the IMC Rating (instrument meteorological conditions), and the Night Qualification. 

Paul Collins completes Aerobatic Course

Pom Flying Group Member Paul Collins has completed the AOPA Aerobatics course under the expert tuition of national aerobatics competitor and instructor Cas Smith (pictured left) at Full Sutton. First Solo Flight! Congratulations to Robert Ashcroft has successfully achieved his first solo flight with the POM Flying Club on Thursday 25th September at Humberside airport.

Twin Engine Instructor Congratulations also to Dave Gibson CFI of The POM Flying Club, who has added a Twin Instructor Rating to his portfolio. Dave is now able to give instruction on twin engine aircraft to anyone who wants to learn through The POM Flying Club.

 Kevin Hogg has been signed off on both the Beech Duchess and the Piper Seneca, adding these to his complex single ratings, and Jet Provost ratings.
