Ball in the middle! - The POM Flying Group - Mid-Summer Ball

The POM Flying Group held their mid-summer ball at Elsham Golf Club on Saturday 17th July. The evening started with opening credits, congratulations and awards to celebrate the achievements of the group members and student pilots. Formalities aside, the assembled throng of over 100 guests went on to enjoy dinner followed by dancing to the band "Nitetrain" into the wee small hours.  A great time was had by everyone who attended and the success of the evening has prompted early planning for the next social gathering scheduled for the festive season!

I'm sure everyone would like to pass on their thanks to Chris Dale and all involved in the planning and preparation for their tireless efforts and relentless enthusiasm in making this event such a success. MORE PHOTOS>> HERE

 

Additional Aircraft to join the POM Fleet!

The POM Flying Group are pleased to announce the arrival of a third aircraft to join the fleet. G-SELB is a Piper Warrior PA28-161, similar to our existing Warrior G-BPOM, and will be available for PPL hire, training and trial flights.  It has a new engine and recently serviced propeller, the aircraft has also undergone a complete paint respray. Avionics include a Garmin 430 GPS and Autopilot. It was sourced to maintain the groups commitment to provide quality service to it's members and fulfil the increased demand for Pilot training and trial flights. The aircraft arrived at our Humberside base on Friday 23 April 2010.

Piper Warrior G-BPOM returns from Annual Service

Our other Piper Warrior G-BPOM is back on line after undergoing it's scheduled annual maintenance. This was a comprehensive service and inspection lasting two weeks at a CAA approved maintenance facility. Additional to the service included an upgrade to the aircrafts interior, replacing cockpit panels, carpets and fitting of new Recaro seats!...see pictures below click on them for the BIG PICTURE!

Completion of this course will enable anyone who holds or has held a PPL or higher to gain a recognised instructor qualification. They will then hold a recognised Instructor Certificate to deliver the ground training syllabus for the JAR PPL or NPPL.

multi engine training humbersideMulti-Engine Rating - The Multi Engine Rating will entitle the PPL holder to fly in command of Single Pilot Multi Engine Piston aircraft. The course is undertaken with the POM Flying Club in conjunction with Triple A Flying using the Beech Duchess aircraft. The course comprises 6 Hours Flying Training and 7 Hours Ground Training in order to give the candidate a sound theoretical knowledge of multi engine piston aircraft operation in accordance with the visual flight rules (VFR), and to teach the skills necessary for the safe and competent operation of such aircraft. A flight test with a CAA authorised examiner is taken at the end of the course.
As an addition, the application of the IMC rating can also be added to the course, or for persons who already have a Multi Engine Rating, the IMC element can be conducted as a "Stand Alone" course.

Fully inclusive residential courses for PPL

The POM Flying Group offer a fully inclusive training course for the Private Pilot Licence. The package is designed to help you complete the course and be awarded with your Private Pilots Licence within 4 - 6 weeks. You will be assigned a dedicated flying instructor to help you achieve this. First Solo Flight 2nd July 2010 - Darren Rimmington

 

Congratulations to Darren Rimmington for completing his first solo flight at Humberside Airport. Under the guidance of POM Flying Group instructor Andy Rose, Darren completed one Solo take off, Circuit and Landing. Darren is continuing his flying training with the group for the award of a Private Pilots Licence. Well done Darren !

 

First Solo Flight 19 May 2010 - Robert Crowder

Robert Crowder came to The POM Flying Club on the 28th April and has been flying constantly 4 days a week since. He has clocked up 14 hours flying training before going for his first solo circuit flight. He was the pilot of Piper Warrior G-BPOM for one take off, complete circuit and landing. All at The POM Flying Group would like to congratulate Robert on this major achievement and wish him continued success with the rest of his training for the Private Pilots licence.

First Solo Flight - Mike Shileds

Congratulations to Mike Shildes who successfully completed his first Solo today 5th May in G-SELB at Humberside Airport. Mike started his PPL training in Durban South Africa, and completed his primary training just short of the solo circuit. Mike has chosen The POM Flying Club to complete his training and after a couple of hours re-familiarisation - was sent solo by Instructor Andy Rose today. On landing at Humberside the Police helicopter who was also inbound sent his congratulations over the radio. A very nice touch!

First Solo Flight - Marc De Havilland

Marc de Havilland joins the band of Aviators by completing his first solo flight at Humberside international Airport. Marc was the pilot of The POM Flying groups latest fleet addition, G-SELB a Piper Warrior-161 when he completed one solo take off, circuit and landing. He is continuing to train with the group for a Private Pilots Licence and his ultimate goal is to gain a Commercial Pilots Licence.  Congratulations to Marc for this great achievement.

 

First Solo Cross Country Flight - Colin Lond

Congratulations to Colin Lond after completing his first Solo cross country flight from Humberside airport on Sunday 11 April 2010.  Colin's Flight was a navigation exercise to the north west of Humberside Airport and return overhead the Humber Bridge. This marks another achievement in Colin's progress towards his training for the PPL Private Pilots Licence with the POM Flying Group.

Love is in the Air...!

A romantic couple were left feeling sky high after a Trial flight with The Pom Flying Group!

Kevin Metcalf proposed to Tracey Richardson on Valentines Day during their trial flight from Humberside airport.  When flying over Central Grimsby area he popped the question and Tracey said yes!

Tracey from Boston said: " I had no idea and was really surprised. The ring is beautiful and what happened has been so amazing. The flying lesson was also brilliant and I had a go at taking off and landing."

Kevin bought Tracey a gift of an hours trial flight in our Piper Warrior G-BPOM with Dave Gibson as instructor.

Private Pilots Licence Pass with The POM Flying Group !

Rian Crombie is the latest student from The Pom Flying Club to qualify as a
PPL. Rian started his training with the University Air Squadron, flying in
Grob Tutors, before he moved back to the Cleethorpes area and then decided to complete his PPL with us. Rian can be seen here with Dave Gibson - CFI & Examiner with G-BPOM in the Walgate Hangar.

Another PPL Pass with The POM Flying Group !

Congratulations to Rob Shadlock (left) who passed his PPL skills test today 18 September 2009. He now holds a Private Pilots Licence after completing his training with The POM Flying Group at Humberside Airport. Rob can now enjoy flying throughout Europe in single engine light aircraft with a Maximum Take Off Weight of 2300kg (5070lbs). Well Done Rob!

Cross Country Qualifier

Congratulations to Rian Crombie who completed his Qualifying Cross Country flight on Tuesday 18th August. Part of the qualification included two landings away at Peterborough and Retford airports. Rian is currently training with The POM Flying Group for the Private Pilots Licence.

First Solo Flight!

Congratulations to Darran Mills who completed his first Solo flight at Humberside Airport on Wednesday 12th August in G-BPOM.  Flying Instructor Andy Rose said: "Darran is a very quick learner and has progressed extremely well on the PPL syllabus"

POM Flying Group Pilot Will Holroyd (right) with his father David and his grand father - so three generations!  Will took them up for a flight in POM.

His Grand Father was also a pilot and used to fly Tiger Moths to Hurricanes. Will (19) started learning to fly at age 14 and was awarded with his Private Pilots Licence on Sunday 30 March 2008 after completing his training with The Pom Flying Group. His licence now allows him to fly single engine light aircraft with a Maximum Take Off Weight of 2300kg (5070lbs) throughout Europe. Congratulations to Will and Happy Flying!
