Congratulations to Pom Flying club student pilot Shaun Cole for completing his first solo flight on Saturday 5th April 2014. Shaun was the pilot of Piper Warrior GBPOM and completed one take-off, circuit and landing at Humberside international airport. Shaun and four other new student pilots have recently joined the Pom Flying Club to train for the Private Pilots License.
We use four seater Piper Warriors for flight training Our three superb PA28 Warrior-161's make up one of the best General Aviation training fleets in the North of England. We cover all practical flying training and theoretical subjects with final examination for the Private Pilots Licence or additional ratings.

2015 Planned Fly-outs
In 2015, we are looking at running several trips to foreign parts either as one day fly-outs or over a weekend, during the spring and summer months. Accompanied with an instructor, student Pilots and PPL holders can fly a leg and share the costs. Contact us for more details.
As for proposed destinations we are considering the following:
Scotland - Perth, weather permitting fly onto Inverness for an overnight stay.
France - éventuellement Le Touquet......"regarder cet espace"...une Jour!.....peut-être!
England - Trip to Sywell, Northants - Lunch at the "Aviator Hotel" visit to the Aviation Museum.
England - Trip to Kemble the Cotswolds Airport. South West England.
The POM Flying Club Autumn Ball 2012 - "a resounding success!"
This years annual ball, held at Elsham Golf Club in North Lincs, was a resounding success and was well supported with over 120 guests attending. Special thanks go to Chief Flying Instructor Dave Gibson for taking the lead in organising this event.
After a drinks reception the evening started with presentations to recognise the successes and achievements of the groups 2012 student pilots. They were awarded with certificates and wings badges for completing solo flights and other flying training qualifications. In a short speech Dave outlined the past years successes and The POM Flying Group's plans for continued development and commitment to provide quality flying training and premier facilities for all of its student pilots and members.
Following a well received dinner it was "Strictly come dancing" to the six piece live band ,"OFF LIMITS". A great night was had by all!

First solo navigation flight for Scott Anderson!
13/10/12, Scott Anderson completed his first solo navigation, from Humberside to Bridlington and back. Scott had completed a faultless practice run with his instructor Dan Manning, with a little help from the weather he then flew the navigation on his own.
This is a fundamental step in Scott's training which is now increasing pace and another flying success for Scott and The POM Flying Group.
Two more Private Pilots Licence passes for the POM Flying Group!.
Two members of the POM Flying Group have recently passed the General Flight Test and have qualified for the award of a Private Pilots Licence.
Stuart Dawson successfully completed the GFT on 3rd August with Dave Gibson our Chief Flying Instructor and Flight Examiner.
Stuart has completed all of the ground school examinations and flying lessons with Flying Instructor Andy Rose and now has been awarded a Private Pilots Licence. Congratulations Stuart!
Zandra Holden also completed and passed the General Flight Test with Flight Examiner Dave Gibson on 28th August and is awarded a Private Pilots Licence.
Zandra has been taking flying lessons and ground school training with The POM Flying Group under the guidance of flying instructor Ken Peach over the last year. Well done Zandra!
Dan Manning - New Flying Instructor Joins the POM Group.
Dan has joined The POM Flying Club as a new PPL Instructor. He joins the team with over 1000 hours of instruction mainly in PA 28’s and Cessna 150’s in and around the Lincolnshire area.
As an educational professional all his working life, he gained a 1st Class honours degree to teach from Sheffield University. He has taught all age ranges from primary school level through to college and has teaching commitments during term time.
His flying qualifications include a Commercial Pilots licence , Instrument and Multi-engine ratings and predominantly instructs PPL. He has a solid background in aviation training and a real interest in passing on the knowledge and passion that makes light aviation such a fantastic thing to be involved in.
Dan will be available for training PPL and Trial & Air Experience flights in the evenings and predominantly at weekends. We welcome Dan to the club and look forward to expanding the flying school with his help.
Humberside Airport Travel - Open Day
"On Sunday 18th September The POM Flying Club had a stand at Humberside Airports travel open day, and a great number of interested people enquired about trial flights and flying training for the Private Pilots Licence. A good number of bookings were taken on the day and it was great to see how Humberside Airport can open up new opportunities to the public. Paul Litten, Development Director for Humberside Airport said: "It showed members of the public that we don't just fly to Amsterdam and the Oil Rigs - we have a lot to offer with many holiday destinations, as well as the number of flying schools and other industries at the airport. The POM Flying Club is one of the leading Flight Training Schools at the airport and always support every initiative we have".

FIRST SOLO FLIGHT!
Scott Anderson successfully completed his first solo flight at Humberside Airport on 30/6/12.
He was the pilot of Piper Warrior GBPOM and completed one take off, circuit and landing.
Flying instructor Dan Manning said " This is a great milestone in Scotts flying tuition, it shows that he has gained the skills and confidence to fly and manage the aircraft safely in an aerodrome circuit pattern."
He continues to train with the POM Flying group for the award of a Private Pilots Licence.

Richard Moorfoot successfully completed his first solo navigation at Humberside Airport in GBPOM on Sunday 25th September - only 5 weeks after his 16th Birthday. Richard was bought a trial flight lesson which he took with us on 7th July 2010, and then had a second lesson in September and has since been taking flying lessons with us every fortnight. "He is a natural pilot and has taken to every aspect of learning to flying with excellent pre-flight preparation and a huge willingness to learn.... and is a pleasure to teach" - Ken Peach - Flight Instructor.

Simon Banks- Cooper has successfully completed his PPL training with us in 4 months and around 52 hours. This is a major achievement as Simon is travels extensively around the globe on international business - obviously using his time on commercial flights to swat up on his ground exams! Andy Rose - instructor said "its been a pleasure training Simon, as he was always well prepared before his training flights and readily took to every part of the syllabus, also increasing his experience into grass airfields and experiencing spin training in an Aerobat as well. A very accomplished student who very much deserves his new wings. Very well done". After gaining some PPL time, Simon intends to go further with both IMC and Night training with us. Zandra Holden successfully completed her fist Solo flight and circuit at Humberside in Piper Warrior G-BPOM on Thursday 28th July. Zandra has been learning to fly with us for 3 months on a regular basis.
Tim Evans who has successfully completed his first solo flight on Friday 3 June 2011.

Dundee Just over 2 hours flying time from Humberside and a landing fee of only £10.50 makes Dundee a great and affordable fly away destination. Share the costs and it can easily be done as a day trip. Dundee airport is located on the north bank of the river Tay. Taxi ride is £5.00 to the city centre and there are plenty of hotels for an overnight stay, aircraft overnight parking is approx £6.00. Inverness is only 1hr 25 min further North. A recommended route is East around the Grampian Mountains via Banchory and Insch (VRP's for Aberdeen) then a left turn along the "Whisky Trail" to the Highland Capital. Inverness airport is very friendly towards private light aircraft. You are marshalled onto stand by Signature Aviation, their facilities and service for visiting pilots are excellent. Landing fee is only £17.00 overnight parking on the GA apron was only £5.00! Highly recommended! Click below for the BIG picture.

The British Women Pilots Association
POM Flying Group Member Melinda Benson has joined The British Women Pilots Association. The BWPA exists to promote aviation, particularly to women. There are over three hundred members of the BWPA involved in all areas of aviation. Amongst the membership are student pilots, those flying for a hobby, airline captains, military pilots and flying instructors. Members are of all ages, experience and backgrounds but share a common enthusiasm for flying.
NEW - PA28 AIRCRAFT TOW BARS
Have you ever tried to find a tow bar for a PA28 or Cessna - they are like gold dust? .......Well this may be your answer!
We have started production of bespoke tow bars for PA28's. These sturdy but light steel tow bars come in two styles: a standard 34" or an adjustable version for easy stowage, and are finished in powder coated bright orange - so you can never loose them.
In the stowed position the adjustable version measures only 24" long and extends to 38" to make ground handling easy and only weigh 2kg. The costs are £99 for the standard tow bar and £120 for the adjustable version plus VAT, post & packing.
We are working on tow bars for Cessna 150/172/180 models which should be available soon.

Trial Flying Lesson at 90 years young!
This is Elsie Allan who is 90 years old and took a flying lesson with The POM flying Group. Her passengers were her son and daughter in law who bought her the flying gift as a 90th birthday present. Elsie's flight with instructor Ken Peach took her around the local area and she actually flew the aircraft for most of the lesson. Well done Elsie!

Additional Aircraft to join the POM Fleet!
The POM Flying Group are pleased to announce the arrival of a third aircraft to join the fleet. G-SELB is a Piper Warrior PA28-161, similar to our existing Warrior G-BPOM, and will be available for PPL hire, training and trial flights. It has a new engine and recently serviced propeller, the aircraft has also undergone a complete paint respray. Avionics include a Garmin 430 GPS and Autopilot. It was sourced to maintain the groups commitment to provide quality service to it's members and fulfil the increased demand for Pilot training and trial flights. The aircraft arrived at our Humberside base on Friday 23 April 2010.

Piper Warrior G-BPOM returns from Annual Service
Our other Piper Warrior G-BPOM is back on line after undergoing it's scheduled annual maintenance. This was a comprehensive service and inspection lasting two weeks at a CAA approved maintenance facility. Additional to the service included an upgrade to the aircrafts interior, replacing cockpit panels, carpets and fitting of new Recaro seats!...see pictures below click on them for the BIG PICTURE!

Multi-Engine Rating - The Multi Engine Rating will entitle the PPL holder to fly in command of Single Pilot Multi Engine Piston aircraft. The course is undertaken with the POM Flying Club in conjunction with Triple A Flying using the Beech Duchess aircraft. The course comprises 6 Hours Flying Training and 7 Hours Ground Training in order to give the candidate a sound theoretical knowledge of multi engine piston aircraft operation in accordance with the visual flight rules (VFR), and to teach the skills necessary for the safe and competent operation of such aircraft. A flight test with a CAA authorised examiner is taken at the end of the course.
As an addition, the application of the IMC rating can also be added to the course, or for persons who already have a Multi Engine Rating, the IMC element can be conducted as a "Stand Alone" course.

Ball in the Middle! .....The POM Flying Groups Mid-Summer Ball
The POM Flying Group held their mid-summer ball at Elsham Golf Club on Saturday 17th July. The evening started with opening credits, congratulations and awards to celebrate the achievements of the group members and student pilots. Formalities aside, the assembled throng of over 100 guests went on to enjoy dinner followed by dancing to the band "Nitetrain" into the wee small hours. A great time was had by everyone who attended and the success of the evening has prompted early planning for the next social gathering scheduled for the festive season!

First Solo Flight 19 May 2010 - Robert Crowder
Robert Crowder came to The POM Flying Club on the 28th April and has been flying constantly 4 days a week since. He has clocked up 14 hours flying training before going for his first solo circuit flight. He was the pilot of Piper Warrior G-BPOM for one take off, complete circuit and landing. All at The POM Flying Group would like to congratulate Robert on this major achievement and wish him continued success with the rest of his training for the Private Pilots licence.

First Solo Flight - Mike Shileds
Congratulations to Mike Shildes who successfully completed his first Solo today 5th May in G-SELB at Humberside Airport. Mike started his PPL training in Durban South Africa, and completed his primary training just short of the solo circuit. Mike has chosen The POM Flying Club to complete his training and after a couple of hours re-familiarisation - was sent solo by Instructor Andy Rose today. On landing at Humberside the Police helicopter who was also inbound sent his congratulations over the radio. A very nice touch!
First Solo Flight - Marc De Havilland
Marc de Havilland joins the band of Aviators by completing his first solo flight at Humberside international Airport. Marc was the pilot of The POM Flying groups latest fleet addition G-SELB a Piper Warrior-161 when he completed one solo take off, circuit and landing. He is continuing to train with the group for a Private Pilots Licence and his ultimate goal is to gain a Commercial Pilots Licence. Congratulations to Marc for this great achievement.
First Solo Cross Country Flight - Colin Lond
Congratulations to Colin Lond after completing his first Solo cross country flight from Humberside airport on Sunday 11 April 2010. Colin's Flight was a navigation exercise to the north west of Humberside Airport and return overhead the Humber Bridge. This marks another achievement in Colin's progress towards his training for the PPL Private Pilots Licence with the POM Flying Group.

A romantic couple were left feeling sky high after a Trial flight with The Pom Flying Group!
Kevin Metcalf proposed to Tracey Richardson on Valentines Day during their trial flight from Humberside airport. When flying over Central Grimsby area he popped the question and Tracey said yes! Tracey from Boston said: " I had no idea and was really surprised. The ring is beautiful and what happened has been so amazing. The flying lesson was also brilliant and I had a go at taking off and landing."Kevin bought Tracey a gift of an hours trial flight in our Piper Warrior G-BPOM with Dave Gibson as instructor.

Private Pilots Licence Pass with The POM Flying Group !
Rian Crombie is the latest student from The Pom Flying Club to qualify as a
PPL. Rian started his training with the University Air Squadron, flying in
Grob Tutors, before he moved back to the Cleethorpes area and then decided to complete his PPL with us. Rian can be seen here with Dave Gibson - CFI & Examiner with G-BPOM in the Walgate Hangar.

Another PPL Pass with The POM Flying Group !
Congratulations to Rob Shadlock (left) who passed his PPL skills test today 18 September 2009. He now holds a Private Pilots Licence after completing his training with The POM Flying Group at Humberside Airport. Rob can now enjoy flying throughout Europe in single engine light aircraft with a Maximum Take Off Weight of 2300kg (5070lbs). Well Done Rob!

Cross Country Qualifier
Congratulations to Rian Crombie who completed his Qualifying Cross Country flight on Tuesday 18th August. Part of the qualification included two landings away at Peterborough and Retford airports. Rian is currently training with The POM Flying Group for the Private Pilots Licence.
First Solo Flight!
Congratulations to Darran Mills who completed his first Solo flight at Humberside Airport on Wednesday 12th August in G-BPOM. Flying Instructor Andy Rose said: "Darran is a very quick learner and has progressed extremely well on the PPL syllabus"
Three Generations of Flyers!
POM Flying Group Pilot Will Holroyd (right) with his father David and his grand father - so three generations! Will took them up for a flight in POM.
His Grand Father was also a pilot and used to fly Tiger Moths to Hurricanes. Will (19) started learning to fly at age 14 and was awarded with his Private Pilots Licence on Sunday 30 March 2008 after completing his training with The Pom Flying Group. His licence now allows him to fly single engine light aircraft with a Maximum Take Off Weight of 2300kg (5070lbs) throughout Europe. Congratulations to Will and Happy Flying!

Sally Cluley - Britain's youngest qualified pilot!
The POM Flying Club congratulates Sally Cluley on successfully completing her PPL training, passing her General Flight Skills test on Thursday 28th August after an intensive four week training course with The POM Flying Club at Humberside airport. Sally was 17 on 28th September and was issued with her Private Pilots Licence to become the UK's youngest Pilot at a special ceremony held in the CAA offices at Gatwick Airport. A member of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, she is also a glider pilot at RAF Syerston and has an ambition to train for her Commercial Licence once she has completed her education. Sally admitted to feeling "Very good, excited about it as well!" - Well done Sally!
