Grace Kripgans CPL
Commercial Pilot
Grace has been
one of our our model students. She started taking a few lessons with us, landing unaided on her third circuit and solo’d after 14 hours. She gained a First in Aerospace Engineering at Liverpool whilst joining the University Air Squadron as well. We helped her secure a scholarship with the Honourable Company of Air Pilots to complete her PPL with us, which she did in 50 hours. After studying for her Commercial Theoretical exams she went to Skyborne to train for her Airline Transport Pilot Licence.
Huge congratulations Grace on becoming a Commercial Pilot. Your future in the sky's continues!
Well done Grace from All at the POM Flying Club
Captain Tim Darby - RIP
Captain Tim Darby
1956 - 2022
It is with great sadness
to hear that Tim Darby passed away on Wednesday
28th September at 1.30am, after a year's battle with cancer.
He celebrated his 66th Birthday on Sunday 13th December having
retired from the commercial airliner world last year.
After
a long and happy life flying around the world and clocking up
14,000 hours, he was a great part of our success, as he was our
principle ground school instructor as well as one of our Flight
Instructor's and Examiner for both skills tests as well as RT
tests, for the last 16 years.
Tim started life training for
his ATPL's at AST in Perth, joining British Regional Airlines (a
BA franchise) on Jetstream 41's
- even flying on occasion with
another POM instructor, Andy Rose!
In fact, he had flown
most of the Eastern Airways 41's we now see at Humberside!
He
then moved to TransAer on the Airbus A300, then to XL Airways on
the Boeing 737NG, then Viking Airways, Flyglobespan, EastJet and
finally Norwegian Airways - all on the 737NG.
He was also a
commercial instructor at Air Service Training in Perth and Qatar
Aeronautical College, as well as a Line Trainer/Instructor on the
737.
Tim had always been a strong supporter of the POM
Flying Club and had been with us since we formed in 2003. He was
renowned for putting nervous students at ease before a skills
test, being jovial and good humored, always going that extra mile
to help.
We pay tribute to this very wise and experienced
aviator who will be sorely missed.
Fly high and fair winds
Tim!
Rest In Peace now.
Night Ratings Pass!
Congratulations go to Vasileios for completing his Night Rating on Friday night 25/1/22 Training completed with The POM Flying Group at Humberside Airport
New Private Pilot Pass!
Congratulations to Rhys Kendall who passed his General Flight Test today, 9/Nov/21 with Dave Gibson, our head of training and examiner. Rhys had to contend with two Covid lockdown periods, starting a new business and of course our weather, which placed continuity challenges disrupting his training with Richard Amor. Despite these hurdles, he still completed his PPL with us in under 60 hours. Well done Rhys.
